Mumbai, January 5: IPS officer Isha Singh, who recently garnered national attention for her firm handling of a political rally, has been transferred from her post in Puducherry to Delhi. The move comes shortly after a video of Singh went viral, showing her publicly intercepting a leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party to prevent overcrowding at a high-profile event.
The transfer was part of a broader administrative reshuffle by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which also moved two other IPS officers and an IAS officer from the Union Territory. Karur Stampede Case: CBI Plans to Question TVK Leader Vijay in Connection With Tragic Stampede in Tamil Nadu.
Who is Lady Singham Isha Singh?
Isha Singh, a 2021-batch IPS officer, has a reputation for being a principled administrator. Born in Mumbai in 1998, she is the daughter of Yogesh Pratap Singh, a former IPS officer known for his anti-corruption stance, and Abha Singh, a prominent lawyer and activist. Before joining the police force, Isha graduated from the National Law School in Bengaluru, where she focused on human rights and public interest litigation.
Her early career was marked by significant legal victories, including securing compensation for the families of manual scavengers and advocating for those wrongfully imprisoned. Since being posted to Puducherry in 2024, she served as SSP and was recently active in the Anti-Corruption Bureau, where she was credited with accelerating long-pending cases.
IPS Isha Singh Confronted TVK Leader Seeking More Crowd at Rally
The incident that propelled Singh into the spotlight occurred during TVK chief Vijay’s first public meeting since a tragic stampede in Karur. Held at the Uppalam Expo Ground in Puducherry, the event was subject to strict safety regulations, including a cap on attendance. During the rally, TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand reportedly urged more people to enter the venue from the stage. Singh intervened immediately, seizing the microphone to halt the announcement and reminding organisers of the 41 lives lost in the previous Karur tragedy.
The confrontation, captured on video, showed Singh delivering a stern reprimand: "You have so many people's blood. Forty people have died. What are you doing?" Her refusal to yield to political pressure earned her widespread praise online and from local officials. Puducherry Home Minister A. Namassivayam even personally honored Singh for her exemplary crowd management, noting that officers must be allowed to perform their duties without interference to prevent loss of life.
The context of her intervention dates back to September 28, 2025, when a massive TVK rally in Karur ended in a deadly stampede. That incident claimed 41 lives, including women and children, after nearly 30,000 people surged into a venue meant for a fraction of that size. Singh’s strict enforcement in Puducherry was aimed specifically at preventing a repeat of such a disaster.
