A five-year-old girl was killed and two other children were seriously injured after a tree fell on a school bus in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Chiranvi, was a UKG student at a school in Kalladka. The accident occurred near Kalleti in Bantwal taluk while the bus was dropping pre-primary students home after school. The tree reportedly collapsed due to continuous rainfall and strong winds over the past few days.

Girl Dies on Way to Hospital, Two Children Injured

According to officials, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued children trapped inside the damaged school bus. The two other injured children are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kalladka and Mangaluru. Bantwal Tahsildar visited the hospital after the incident, and the district administration has assured financial assistance to the victim's family.

Deputy CM G Parameshwara Expresses Grief

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said he was "deeply shocked" by the tragedy and extended his condolences to Chiranvi's family. Parameshwara said he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner and directed district in-charge minister U.T. Khader to personally oversee relief and support measures. He also instructed the district administration to provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved family and ensure the injured children receive the best possible medical treatment.

Similar Incident Reported in Mumbai Last Month

The incident comes less than a month after a similar tragedy in Mumbai's Chembur, where an 11-year-old student died and four others were injured after a large tree collapsed on their school bus on June 30.
