A 23-year-old female school teacher sustained injuries on Tuesday morning after her scooty collided with a wild elephant crossing the national highway. The unusual accident occurred in the dense forest patch between Banbasa and Chakarpur, under the Khatima region of Uttarakhand. The impact of the collision was severe enough to break one of the elephant's tusks into three pieces. The victim, identified as Nikita Kapri, a resident of Shripur Bichva and a teacher at Hind Public School in Khatima, was commuting from her parental home in Tanakpur. While she was navigating the highway stretch through the Chakarpur forest area, a wild elephant suddenly emerged from the woods to cross the road, leading to an unavoidable collision. Passing commuters, including a group of local school teachers, witnessed the accident and raised an alarm. The commotion startled the injured elephant, causing it to retreat into the safety of the surrounding jungle. The onlookers immediately notified the victim's family, local police, and the forest department. A police team led by Chakarpur outpost in-charge, Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar, arrived promptly alongside forest officials. Kapri was rescued from the spot and transported to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. Teacher Injured After Scooty Slams Into Elephant Crossing Road

Forest department officials successfully recovered the three fragments of the broken tusk from the highway, which have been safely secured at the local range office. Authorities confirmed that the accident spot is a designated elephant corridor, where wildlife herds frequently cross the national highway. Following the incident, the forest department initiated the installation of two trap cameras to monitor the health and movement of the injured elephant. Commuters have been strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and maintain low speeds while driving through this forest zone.
