Lakhimpur Kheri: Teacher Shot Dead Inside School, Attacker Kills Self (Video)
A teacher Nishat Fatima, 26, was shot dead inside Children’s Academy School in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP, on Monday. Saud Ansari dragged her upstairs before students, shot her with a country-made pistol after a dispute, then killed himself. Both died on the spot. Police cite ended relationship; probe into harassment and school security continues.
A 26-year-old teacher was shot dead inside a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday morning. The alleged attacker then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene, police said. The incident occurred around 11:30 am at Children’s Academy School in the Shahpura Kothi area, opposite the district collectorate. Classes were underway at the time.
Nishat Fatima, a resident of Hidayat Nagar, was teaching when Saud Ansari (also identified as Mohammad Saud Ansari), 27 or 28, a resident of Naurangabad, arrived at the school. Police said he was carrying a country-made pistol hidden in a bag. He met or called Fatima and took her upstairs to a corridor. CCTV footage showed him dragging her by the arm as students watched; she appeared to resist. A staff member followed them, according to officials.
During a conversation or verbal dispute in the corridor outside a classroom, Ansari pulled out the pistol and fired multiple rounds at Fatima at close range. She collapsed and died on the spot. Eyewitnesses reported hearing three or four gunshots. The noise caused panic among students and staff. Police were alerted by school management, reached the site promptly, cordoned off the area, and moved students to safety.
A forensic team collected evidence, including spent and live cartridges and the pistol. Senior officers, including Lakhimpur Kheri Senior Superintendent of Police Khyati Garg and the district magistrate, inspected the location.

Fatima had worked at the school for about a year. Police said the two had known each other for a long time. Officials and family members indicated a prior relationship that Fatima had ended. Her brother, Shadab Akhtar alleged in a complaint that Ansari had been harassing her and pressuring her to marry him. The family said they had informed Ansari’s parents about the harassment, but no action was taken.
An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder against Ansari. His parents were also named in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy.
Police are examining how Ansari entered the campus with a firearm, the school’s security arrangements, visitor procedures, and CCTV footage. Bodies were sent for postmortem examination.
The school is a two-storey building that caters to young students, with reports indicating enrolment from nursery to Class 8 or up to Class 5. Heavy police deployment continued at the site as the probe continued.
