Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of author Arundhati Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain under Section 45(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The charges stem from their alleged 'provocative' speeches at the 2010 conference 'Azadi-the Only Way.' As per reports, while delivering the speech at the event, Roy, strongly propagated that Kashmir was never a part of the Union of India and was forcibly occupied by Armed Forces. Soon after the event, an FIR was registered against the writer and other speakers for delivering provocative speeches at the conference.

An IAF aircraft has transported the bodies of 14 out of 45 Indian nationals who died in a catastrophic fire in Kuwait. The aircraft landed in Delhi. Thirty-one bodies were received in Kochi by government officials, including Kerala's Chief Minister.

The Japanese government today, June 14, said that a deep-sea search will begin next month for the two Maritime Self-Defence Force (MSDF) helicopters that crashed into the Pacific in April. The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, or JAMSTEC, will begin the search using an unmanned deep-sea vehicle that can reach a depth of up to 6,000 metres, reports Xinhua news agency, citing the science ministry.

The Trinamool Congress released the names of the candidates for four seats that will go for polling on July 10. An Indian Air Force (IAF) flight carrying the mortal remains of the Indians who died in the tragic fire incident in Kuwait two days ago landed at the Cochin International Airport today, June 14. A special Air Force aircraft carrying the mortal remains of 45 Indians who died in the devastating fire on June 12 took off from Kuwait early Friday morning and will first land in Kerala's Kochi and then leave for Delhi. Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, who had rushed to Kuwait, is also returning in the same aircraft.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 hit Himachal Pradesh early Friday morning. The news was confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The NCS said the quake struck Himachal Pradesh's Kullu at 3:40 am.

This decision follows widespread controversy over the high number of candidates—67 in total—securing perfect scores of 720/720.

The Supreme Court is hearing petitions to cancel the NEET UG 2024 exam, filed after the results were declared, challenging the grace marks awarded due to loss of exam time. Concurrently, Congress has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into allegations of a paper leak, questioning Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's assertion that there was no evidence of malpractice. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi criticized the government for issuing clean chits without thorough investigation, citing voice recordings of individuals allegedly selling NEET question papers for up to Rs 30 lakh.

The NEET controversy is expected to be a significant issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha session, raising questions about the integrity of the examination process.
