An Executive Engineer (XEN) with the Uttar Pradesh electricity department found himself at the center of a controversy after a video of him with a former female colleague at a hotel in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar area went viral. According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the incident unfolded at the Continental Hotel, where the official, identified as Executive Engineer Uday Pratap Singh, was staying with a former computer operator who had previously worked in his office.
The matter came to light after the woman’s husband learned about their presence in Lucknow and alerted the local police. Engineer Claims Video is Old and Misrepresented
A video of the confrontation surfaced online on Tuesday, August 11. Addressing the allegations, Executive Engineer Uday Pratap denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the video circulating on social media is old and edited to misrepresent facts.
Pratap clarified that during his posting in Banda, he had brought the computer operator to Lucknow to assist him with an official presentation. He maintained that the context of their meeting was purely professional and that the footage was being circulated to distort the actual events. According to sources cited in the Dainik Bhaskar report, the woman had previously served as a computer operator at the Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam office in Banda during Pratap’s tenure there. Pratap was later transferred to Gonda, but the two allegedly remained in touch before meeting at the Lucknow hotel.
Power department senior officials have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated an internal inquiry. The department is gathering facts to ascertain the official grounds for the woman's presence in Lucknow and the circumstances surrounding their stay at the hotel. Further administrative action will be determined based on the outcome of the investigation.
