Authorities in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district have launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths of three minor sisters, including a nine-month-old infant, who allegedly died after consuming a home-cooked meal of baingan bharta (mashed eggplant) and roti.
Three minor sisters, including a nine-month-old infant, have died in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district after reportedly eating baingan bharta and roti. Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the deaths after learning that the family had buried the bodies without informing authorities or arranging post-mortem examinations, India Today reported.
The victims were identified as 7-year-old Poonam, 3-year-old Manisha and nine-month-old Chahat, daughters of Balmukund Kushwaha of Pipora Khurd village in Chhatarpur district. Betul Road Accident: 3 Killed, Including Husband-Wife, 8 Injured After SUV Crashes Into Parked Truck.
MP Police Begin Investigation
According to police, the sisters had consumed the meal before their deaths. However, investigators have not yet established whether the deaths were caused by food poisoning, an illness or another factor.
The circumstances surrounding the death of the infant have also prompted questions. Police are examining the family's account of what the children consumed and the sequence of events leading to their deaths. Bhopal Horror: Gang Kills Teen Over 'INR 6 Crore Testicles' Myth, Left With No Buyer.
Bodies Buried Without Post-Mortem
The case came to light after authorities were informed that the bodies had been buried without police intervention or medical examination. A police team subsequently visited Pipora Khurd and inspected the burial site. Family members were also brought into the investigation as officers began reconstructing the events.
Police are now initiating the process of exhuming the bodies so that post-mortem examinations can be conducted. The examinations are expected to provide crucial evidence about the cause of death.
Cause of Death Yet to Be Established
Although the deaths were reportedly linked by the family to the consumption of baingan bharta and roti, authorities have not confirmed food poisoning as the cause.
Investigators are considering multiple possibilities and are awaiting medical findings before drawing conclusions. The post-mortem reports will be important in determining whether contaminated food, an underlying illness or another factor was responsible.
Further Probe Underway
Police said the investigation is continuing and that the sequence of events surrounding the three deaths is being examined. The authorities are expected to rely on the post-mortem findings and other evidence gathered during the inquiry to establish what caused the deaths and whether any further action is required.
