The accused, Hanif Mansoori, was arrested after police uncovered the crime through the eyewitness account of the couple's five-year-old child. The incident occurred within the Panwari police station jurisdiction in Mahoba district. The victim, identified as Manisha, suffered fatal injuries to her head, body, and hands during the attack.
Dispute and Arrest in Mahoba
According to local authorities, the accused struggled with severe alcohol and gambling addictions and had previously sold a significant portion of his land to fund them. On Saturday night, July 25. an argument broke out after Manisha attempted to stop him from consuming more alcohol upon his return home in an intoxicated state. During the altercation, Mansoori used a sickle to attack his wife in the presence of their five-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. In an attempt to evade suspicion, Mansoori initially contacted the police himself and fabricated a narrative regarding the incident. However, Panwari Station House Officer (SHO) Praveen Kumar intervened after interviewing the traumatised five-year-old son, whose eyewitness statement led to the immediate interrogation and arrest of the accused. Manisha's body was subsequently transferred for a post-mortem examination.
Family Allegations and Background
Relatives of the victim stated that Mansoori exhibited a suspicious nature and subjected Manisha to frequent physical abuse over minor issues. Her brother, Naseem Mansoori, noted that marital discord had previously involved local law enforcement after the accused forced her out of the home on multiple occasions. "He brutally murdered my sister using a sickle while intoxicated. My sister got married in 2021, she had two small children and was eight months pregnant. I demand the strictest possible punishment for the accused," Naseem Mansoori told NDTV. Shakir, the victim's brother-in-law, stated that family members had repeatedly attempted to intervene regarding the domestic abuse, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The accused's father, who reported being estranged from his son for four years following disputes, also called for maximum legal penalties. "My son has committed a grave crime. He deserves severe punishment for his actions, even if it means the death penalty," he said, adding that he intends to take custody of the children.
