A 42-year-old landlord has been booked for allegedly repeatedly raping his tenant's 10-year-old daughter in the Goverdhan area of Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Police said the accused, originally from West Bengal, is also accused of recording videos of the alleged assaults and threatening the child to keep her silent, according to a report by The Times of India. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused, who is currently absconding,.

According to the complaint, the girl's family had been living as tenants in the accused's house for the past several months. Case Came to Light After Child Spoke to Mother

The alleged abuse came to light after the girl informed her mother about what had happened. The family then approached the police and lodged a formal complaint. Based on the complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR), sent the child for a medical examination and initiated further legal proceedings. The survivor's statement is also being recorded as part of the investigation.

Search Underway for Accused

Police said the accused fled after the complaint was filed. Special teams have been constituted to trace and arrest him. Investigators are also examining the allegation that the accused recorded videos of the assaults. Probe Under POCSO Act

The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS relating to rape, along with provisions of the POCSO Act, which provides legal protection to children against sexual offences. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be added depending on the evidence collected during the course of the probe.

The POCSO Act lays down child-friendly procedures for reporting, investigating and prosecuting sexual offences involving minors. It also mandates measures to protect the identity and well-being of child survivors during the legal process. Police said they are continuing their investigation and have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken once the accused is apprehended.
