Meesho FIR Filed: E-Commerce Company and Vendor Booked After 17-Year-Old Boy Dies From Toxic Pesticide Ordered Online

Gurugram Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against e-commerce platform Meesho and a Surat-based vendor following the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy. According to police, the teenager allegedly ordered a restricted and highly toxic pesticide known as 'Sulfas' through the platform before consuming it.

The case stems from a complaint filed by the mother of the deceased, Anuradha Mehra, who approached a local court after her son passed away on April 28 following the ingestion of the poisonous substance. Following a directive from the court, the Badshahpur police station registered the FIR under Sections 106 and 286 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to causing death by negligence and negligent conduct regarding poisonous substances. Investigators revealed that the product invoice listed Pankaj Bharatbhai Parmar, operator of Evergreen Agro and Gardening Mall based in Surat, as the seller.

As per a Times of India report, law enforcement officials are actively reviewing the digital transaction, the ordering mechanism, and the specific responsibilities of both the vendor and the platform. Authorities confirmed that representatives from Meesho and the supplying firm will soon be summoned for questioning as the forensic analysis of the victim's blood and viscera samples remains underway.

This development marks another instance of legal scrutiny for Meesho concerning the variety of goods available through its marketplace.
