Local authorities identified the deceased as 12-year-old Ali and 14-year-old Arman. According to police officials, both victims were standing on the balcony handing out "sharbat" (a sweet beverage) to participants gathered in the street below when the incident occurred.
According to local Municipal Councillor Ashfaq, the collapse happened as the procession reached a house serving food. He stated that some people on the street grabbed onto the edge of the structural protrusion to reach the food being handed down. The combination of the downward pull from the crowd and the weight of those standing on it caused the balcony to break off, trapping several people underneath the debris. Emergency services and police personnel from the Itaunja police station quickly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations. First responders cleared the rubble and rushed the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North, Gopal Krishna Chaudhary, confirmed that the local police have initiated an inquiry into the structural integrity of the building. "The police team arrived promptly and arranged medical treatment for the injured," Chaudhary said, adding that roughly 10 individuals are currently admitted to the hospital. The incident occurred during the observation of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, which is marked by solemn processions to commemorate the historical martyrdom of Imam Hussain Ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala.
