According to police, the Tazia touched an overhead live electricity line while it was being carried through the village, causing electric shocks and burn injuries to several participants. Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Pandro said police and district officials reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. He said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident, including whether the height of the overhead power line or lapses in safety measures contributed to the tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as Rashid Khan, Saddu Hussain and Arbaz Khan. Officials said one victim's family took the body from the hospital before formal procedures were completed, while the administration continues to verify casualty details. The injured have been admitted to Ratlam Medical College and nearby hospitals. Five of those injured are reported to be in critical condition and are being monitored by medical teams.
Eyewitnesses Raise Safety Concerns
Eyewitnesses alleged that the overhead power line was hanging unusually low and claimed that no electricity department personnel were present during the procession. Videos circulating on social media show the chaos that followed the electrocution, although authorities have said the exact sequence of events will be established through the ongoing investigation.
Tazia processions are held during Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
