Fireworks Used, Investigation Underway
According to the Additional SP, the preliminary investigation indicates that the explosion was caused using rockets commonly used during Diwali celebrations.
Police are examining whether the fireworks were used in accordance with legal provisions and whether organisers had obtained the required permissions for the display. Authorities are also reviewing viral videos and other evidence as part of the investigation.
Police Say Such Stunts Were Meant to Attract Crowds
Karandeep Singh said organisers had allegedly been performing similar stunts during Muharram processions for some time to attract larger crowds and gain attention.
"This time they carried out this act, and we have taken strict action against them," he said, adding that further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
Controversy Over Viral Video
The viral footage drew criticism from several social media users and members of Hindu organisations, who questioned how such a display involving explosives was permitted during a public religious procession.
Police have urged people not to draw conclusions until the investigation is complete and said a detailed statement will be issued after all facts are verified.
