Mumbai Cha Raja Enters 99th Year

Mumbai Cha Raja is entering its 99th year of Ganeshotsav celebrations, with the mandal choosing the Pandharpur Wari as the central theme for this year’s presentation. The theme is designed around the traditions of the Warkari pilgrimage to Pandharpur and the devotion associated with Lord Vitthal.

The decorations will highlight different aspects of the Wari, including Katha, Abhangas and devotional traditions followed by Warkaris during their pilgrimage.

Speaking exclusively to mid-day.com, Mandal Vice-President Adwait Padhamkar said the mandal had chosen the Pandharpur Wari as this year’s theme to present something distinctive for its 99th year. The decoration will showcase the traditions, saints, devotional music and spiritual culture associated with the Wari.

It will also include a Vaikuntha-inspired representation associated with Saint Dnyaneshwar, along with references to the teachings and Abhangas of five prominent saints. The presentation is intended to bring elements of Maharashtra’s devotional heritage into the Ganeshotsav celebrations.

The Mumbai Cha Raja idol will stand 22 feet tall and will be crafted by sculptor Akash Tirmal. The idol and its surrounding decoration will highlight the connection between Lord Vitthal, the Warkari tradition and the devotion of Mumbai Cha Raja’s followers. Padhamkar said the mandal wanted devotees to experience the Ganpati idol in a grand setting that reflects Maharashtra’s spiritual and cultural heritage.

The Wari-inspired presentation will feature elements of devotional storytelling, Abhangas and the traditions associated with Maharashtra’s saint culture. The theme will also focus on the spiritual journey of Warkaris and their connection with Lord Vitthal.

With the mandal marking its 99th year, organisers have sought to combine the scale of the Ganpati idol with a theme rooted in Maharashtra’s cultural and religious traditions.

The mandal has not yet announced the revised date and time for the first-look and photo session. Devotees, photographers and media representatives will have to wait for the official announcement, which the mandal said will be made through its social media channels.
