A social media content creator has been booked for allegedly trespassing into the privately owned Tower of Silence in south Mumbai and filming Parsi funeral rites with what police described as “objectionable” commentary.
According to police, the incident came to light after a trustee of the Bombay Parsi Panchayat (BPP) received an Instagram link to the video from a friend. The video was allegedly filmed inside the restricted Doongerwadi premises in Mumbai’s Malabar Hill area without permission. Complaint Filed by Bombay Parsi Panchayat
According to the complaint lodged by the BPP trustee, the accused, identified as Prince Sheetlaprasad Kanojia, allegedly entered the Doongerwadi premises illegally through the nearby Kamla Nehru Park area. The complaint alleged that Kanojia filmed Parsi funeral rituals inside the restricted premises and later uploaded the footage on social media platforms.
The trustee further claimed that the video included “objectionable” commentary that hurt the religious sentiments of the Parsi community and disrespected the dignity of the deceased. Mumbai Police ACP Booked Under POCSO Act for Flashing Private Parts at Minor Girl in Worli.
Police officials said the accused operates channels on both YouTube and Instagram. A case has been registered against him, and further investigation is currently underway. Authorities said cyber police have also been involved in the case to help remove the allegedly objectionable content circulating online.
Officials are examining the uploaded material and investigating how the accused managed to access the restricted premises. The Tower of Silence, also known as Doongerwadi, is a sacred funerary site used by the Parsi community for traditional last rites.
Entry to the premises is restricted, and photography or filming of funeral rituals is not permitted. The incident has sparked concern within sections of the Parsi community regarding privacy, religious sensitivity and misuse of social media content involving sacred spaces.
