The reservoirs received nearly 60,000 million litres of water over the previous 24 hours, taking the total water stock to 8,95,907 million litres. The sharp increase comes after a fresh spell of rain across Mumbai and its catchment areas boosted inflows into the city's water supply system.
Seven Lakes Register Strong Rise in Water Levels
Mumbai receives its drinking water from seven reservoirs: Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Vihar and Tulsi, located across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Nashik districts. Mumbai Police Prohibitory Orders: What Is Allowed and What Is Not From July 23 to August 6.
Among them, Vihar and Tulsi have reached 100% capacity, while Tansa is at 97.96%, making it the next reservoir likely to overflow if heavy rainfall continues. Modak Sagar is over 90% full, while Bhatsa, the city's largest source of drinking water, has reached 57.27% capacity.
Middle Vaitarna is at 53%, while Upper Vaitarna stands at 39% of its total storage.
Fresh Spell of Rain Boosts Reservoir Inflows

The latest spell of heavy rainfall has accelerated replenishment, with catchment areas of all seven lakes receiving between 70 mm and 224 mm of rain in the past 24 hours. Officials expect water levels to continue rising if rainfall persists over the coming days.
During the same period last year, Mumbai's reservoirs were at 85.32% of their total storage capacity.
Rain Alert Continues for Mumbai and Nearby Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai and its suburbs. Gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph are also expected.
An orange alert remains in place for Thane and Palghar due to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Nashik is under a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms.
With monsoon activity expected to continue over the reservoir catchment areas, Mumbai's water reserves are likely to increase further in the coming days.
