A youth was rescued after accidentally falling into the swollen Mithi River in Dahisar West amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Saturday, July 4. The incident occurred as incessant monsoon showers continued to disrupt normal life across the city, triggering waterlogging, transport delays and several rain-related emergencies.

According to officials, the youth slipped into the river during the downpour. Officials said the incident took place in Dahisar West, where the swollen river posed additional challenges for rescuers. A video from the scene showed firefighters lowering a rope into the river before pulling the youth to safety from a height of around 15 feet. Heavy Rain Continues to Disrupt Mumbai

Water accumulation on railway tracks, particularly between Nalasopara and Virar on the Western Railway line and near Vikhroli on the Central Railway, led authorities to impose speed restrictions, resulting in delays to local train services.

Recent Rain-Related Incidents

Mumbai has reported multiple rain-related incidents over the past week. On June 30, an 11-year-old boy, Vihan Shrivastav, died after a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on his school bus. On July 2, Aslam Isak Shaikh (60) died after falling into an uncovered manhole in the Chandivali-Sakinaka area, highlighting the dangers posed by heavy monsoon conditions.

Schools Shut, Weather Alert Remains in Force

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for the afternoon session in all schools and colleges on Saturday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall. The downpour also resulted in multiple civic incidents across Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged residents across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the Pune-Nashik belt to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather advisories, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected to continue until July 6.
