Mysuru, February 15: A routine school day turned into a heart-stopping moment for a Class 3 student in Mysuru when a venomous snake was found coiled inside her school bag.

The incident came to light after young Ruchita returned home and was about to unpack her books. As she reached for her bag, she sensed unusual movement inside. Alarmed, she immediately dropped it near the garage and alerted her parents, a quick decision that may have prevented a dangerous situation.

Realising the seriousness of the matter, the family contacted noted snake rescuer ‘Snake’ Shyam from Yelwala. With an astonishing 49 years of experience and over 98,000 snake rescues across Mysuru to his credit, Shyam rushed to the spot. Speaking about the incident, Shyam warned that such cases often occur when school bags are left open in playgrounds or placed on grassy surfaces where snakes may slip in seeking shelter. He added that rising temperatures push snakes towards cool, shaded spaces, increasing the likelihood of encounters in residential neighbourhoods. Parents have been urged to ensure children zip their bags and check belongings carefully, especially during summer.
