Mumbai, September 2: The brutal torture of a young girl working as domestic help for a household in Nagpur, Maharashtra, stunned the neighbourhood. The child was beaten, burned with cigarettes, and locked in darkness for days.

In Nagpur's Atharva Nagari Society, a family brought a 12-year-old girl from Bengaluru to help with the domestic work, according to the police.

When the girl made mistakes, the house owners reportedly burnt her with a hot pan and cigarettes and subjected her to physical punishment. She sustained burns from hot cooking utensils, cigarettes, on all over her body and even on the private parts. One of the neighbours said that the house's electricity had been disconnected because the employer of the young girl had failed to pay the bill.
