Puri, December3: In a shocking incident of sexual assault, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men including an ex-constable in a police quarter of Puri district in Odisha on Monday. The accused offered the woman a lift promising to drop her home when she was waiting at the Nimapara bus stand in Puri district to go to her native village in Kakatpur. Odisha: Woman Raped in Car and Dumped on National Highway in Khordha District, One Arrested.

The rape survivor registered a complaint at the Kumbharapada Police Station. In the complaint, the girl alleged that when she was standing at the bus stand, a person introduced himself as a policeman by showing his identity card and offered help. She further said that when she refused to take help the accused forcibly dragged her into the car and took her to the government quarters in Puri.

“But, instead of dropping her home, the four persons took her to an official quarter in Puri town and gang-raped her this evening,” reported Hindustan Times quoting Kulamani Sethi, inspector of Kumbharpada police station as saying. The rape survivor managed to get hold of ex-constable's identity card Jitendra Sethi. The police arrested the ex-constable and his three accomplices. According to reports,  Jitender's wife also serves in Odisha Police. 1,865 Cases of Rape in Odisha Till Sept 30 This Year.

The incident came to light days after the 27-year-old female veterinary doctor was gang-raped and murdered by four accused in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The four accused in the case have been sent to 14-day-judicial remand. The Telangana government also ensured to set up a fast track court to hear the matter.
