The incident took place while Verma was inspecting a newly laid road in the area. The complainant, identified as Saheb Singh, said he was recording the proceedings as part of the MLA's social media team when the confrontation occurred. A video circulated on social media appears to show Verma pulling down Singh's phone before appearing to slap him.
Man Alleges Threats
Singh alleged that after the incident, security personnel restrained him and that people accompanying the minister misbehaved with him and threatened him. He has sought action over the alleged incident. Police have so far confirmed receiving the complaint but have not indicated that the allegations have been established. Verma Gives His Version
Verma has disputed the account and said the video circulating online does not show the complete context. He alleged that people accompanying Jarnail Singh abused his family during the inspection and said he reacted after being provoked.
The minister also alleged that the local MLA had sought a commission in connection with road work, a claim that has not been established. Verma said the government would independently assess road construction work, including through technical testing.
AAP Demands Action
The incident has triggered a political dispute between the ruling BJP and the opposition AAP in Delhi. AAP leaders have demanded action against Verma, while the minister has maintained that the incident was presented without its full context.
