The Sri Shivakumar Swamiji Flyover, also known as the Peenya Elevated Flyover on Tumakuru Road (NH-4), will be completely closed to traffic for more than 100 hours starting early Monday, April 13. The shutdown will begin at 5 am and continue until 11 am on Friday, April 17, affecting one of Bengaluru’s key northbound corridors.

The 4.2-kilometre-long and 15-metre-wide flyover, which connects Peenya to Nagasandra, plays a critical role in easing congestion along Tumakuru Road. Authorities have advised commuters to prepare for significant delays during the closure period. ‘Zombie Drug’ Viral Video: Bengaluru Police to Issue Notices, Warn of Legal Action Against Misinformation Spreaders.

Peenya Flyover Closure: Closure Schedule and Affected Stretch

The full closure will apply to the entire stretch between the Kennametal Widia upper ramp and the SRS down ramp, covering the section from CMTI Junction to the Parle-G toll area.

During this period, no vehicles will be allowed on the elevated corridor as officials carry out essential structural checks. Bengaluru Shocker: 19-Year-Old BTech Student Dies by Suicide After Jumping From 9th Floor of Hostel Building.

Reason for Shutdown

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking the closure to conduct final load testing of the flyover following extensive repairs. The structure, which opened in 2010, had faced safety concerns after prestressed cables in multiple spans failed due to corrosion.

Since December 2021, heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks had already been barred from using the flyover. In recent months, around 1,422 cables have been repaired or replaced.

The upcoming load test is intended to verify the structural integrity of the repaired sections before any decision is made on reopening the flyover to all categories of vehicles.

Traffic Diversions in Place

Authorities have outlined alternate routes for commuters to manage traffic during the closure:

From Nelamangala towards Bengaluru:

Vehicles will be diverted at the Kennametal Widia ramp to the NH-4 surface road, passing through 8th Mile, Dasarahalli, Jalahalli Cross, Peenya Police Station Junction, SRS Junction, and onward to Goraguntepalya.

From Bengaluru towards Nelamangala:

Traffic will be rerouted from SRS Junction through Peenya Police Station Junction, Jalahalli Cross, Dasarahalli, 8th Mile, and up to the Parle-G toll stretch.

Commuter Advisory

Traffic officials have warned of heavy congestion along Tumakuru Road and adjoining areas throughout the week. Commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance and allow extra time, particularly during peak hours.

Following the completion of load testing, the NHAI will assess the results before taking a final call on reopening the flyover for unrestricted use. Until then, authorities have urged the public to cooperate with traffic diversions and adhere to advisories to minimise disruption.
