According to preliminary information, the assailants arrived in a Mahindra Thar SUV and allegedly opened fire on the occupants of another car near the Mehndipur crossing in Khemkaran. All three occupants sustained gunshot injuries. Gursewak Singh later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, while the two injured men were admitted to a private hospital in Bhikhiwind for treatment. Their condition was reported to be critical.
Police have identified the alleged shooters as Manjit Singh, also known as Katta, and his brother, Sandeep Singh. A case has been registered against the two, and the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to reports, Manjit Singh alleged that the occupants of the other car were involved in an extortion case. However, the victims’ side claimed that the firing was carried out without provocation.
