Chandigarh, November 15: Intelligence agencies have issued an alert on Thursday that six to seven Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists have entered Punjab’s Ferozepur district and are planning to move towards Delhi. The Punjab Police has also issued a note advising the authorities to tighten the security across the state including in the areas along the Pakistan border. The alert has been issued a day after four suspected terrorists hijacked a car in Pathankot’s Madhopur area on Tuesday from a man who reportedly hails from Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab Terror Plot Busted; Four Students Including 2 Kashmiris Arrested From Jalandhar With AK-47s

Initial reports suggested the alleged hijackers were travelling from Jammu to Pathankot. A search operation was launched to trace the suspicious men. "A taxi driver picked four people from Jammu station and was travelling to Pathankot. But in Madhopur, those four people threw the driver out and absconded with his vehicle," a Punjab police officer told news agency ANI.

Last month, reports surfaced that the JeM was planning to conduct a series of attacks in India. According to a report published in India Today, two programmes were organised by the JeM in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on October 19 and 20 in which around 100 suicide attackers took an oath to wage war against India. The functions were organised in its 'Shohdai Kashmir' conference (Kashmir martyrs') in PoK in Kotli and Rawlakot.

Earlier this month, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat also warned that external forces are trying to disrupt peace in Punjab. General Rawat said that Punjab has been peaceful, but because of these external linkages, attempts again are being made to revive insurgency in the state.
