Police in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his cousin, with investigators saying the crime stemmed from an alleged extramarital relationship between the accused and the victim's wife. According to police, the accused allegedly killed the victim after the woman refused to leave her husband and elope with him. The case was solved within 72 hours of the incident, as reported by TOI. The incident took place in Thakurain Khera village under Bachhrawan police station limits. Affair Allegedly Led to the Murder
During the investigation, police identified the victim's cousin as the prime suspect. According to investigators, the accused had been in a relationship with the victim's wife for some time and had allegedly been pressuring her to leave her husband and elope with him. Police alleged that when the woman refused to do so, the accused decided to eliminate the victim, whom he viewed as an obstacle to the relationship. Accused Arrested Within Three Days
Investigators said they relied on technical surveillance, local intelligence and questioning of witnesses to trace the accused. He was arrested within 72 hours of the murder.
During interrogation, police said the accused allegedly confessed to planning and carrying out the attack. The murder weapon and other evidence have also been recovered, according to officials.
Police Continue Probe
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been remanded to judicial custody, while investigators continue to collect forensic and documentary evidence.
Police are also examining the role of other individuals, if any, and verifying all aspects of the alleged motive before filing the chargesheet.
Personal Disputes Turning Violent
The case has drawn attention in the region due to the alleged involvement of close family members. Police have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and that the motive and sequence of events will ultimately be determined through the judicial process based on the evidence presented before the court.
