Rajasthan: Man Allegedly Kills Wife Over Money for Liquor, Hides Body in Iron Trunk
A man in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district allegedly beat his wife to death after she refused to give him money for liquor and hid her body in a locked iron trunk, police said. The crime came to light four days later after a foul smell was noticed. The accused has been detained, while the exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem and forensic reports.
A 40-year-old man was detained in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district after he allegedly beat his wife to death and concealed her body inside a locked iron trunk following an argument over money for liquor, police said on Tuesday, July 21. The incident occurred on July 18 in Agwana Khurd village under the Surajgarh police station limits and came to light four days later after a foul smell began emanating from the trunk.
Police said the accused, identified as Krishna Kumar Jat, allegedly assaulted his wife, Sulochana, 34, after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol. The body has been sent for post-mortem, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Argument Over Liquor Money Turned Fatal
According to Station House Officer Ram Singh Yadav, the couple got into an argument on Saturday over money for liquor. "When the woman refused to give money, the accused allegedly beat her brutally, leading to her death," he said.
Police said the accused then tied the woman's hands, placed her body inside an iron trunk in the house and locked it in an alleged attempt to conceal the crime.
Body Found After Foul Smell Alerted Others
The case surfaced several days later after a foul smell began coming from the locked trunk. Police said the accused informed an acquaintance about the situation, which eventually led to the authorities being alerted. "The body was found inside a locked trunk and has been kept in the mortuary. The accused has been detained and is being questioned," the officer said.
Son Misled After Returning Home
Police said the couple's 16-year-old son was away from home when the incident occurred. When he returned, the accused allegedly told him that his mother had gone somewhere, investigators said.
During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. However, police said the exact manner of the killing and whether any weapon was used are yet to be established.
Officials said the precise cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis. "The exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem and forensic reports," Yadav said. Police said the couple had married in 2009. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
