In an unusual case of digital-era neighborhood friction, a woman resident of Banjara Hills has approached the local police after being evicted from a community WhatsApp group. The complainant filed a formal grievance alleging mental harassment after the group's administrator repeatedly denied her requests to be added back to the platform.
The dispute originated within a dedicated WhatsApp group created for the residents of NBT Nagar, located on Road No. 12, Banjara Hills. According to local sources, the digital forum was originally established to streamline communication and address local infrastructure and community issues within the basti (neighborhood). Tensions escalated recently when political messages began appearing on the forum, diverging from its intended civic purpose. In response, the group administrator issued a formal warning to all participants, strictly prohibiting the sharing of political content to maintain neutral community discussions.
Despite the explicit warning, the woman reportedly continued to share political posts within the forum. Citing a breach of the group's established rules, the administrator subsequently removed her from the chat. Following her removal, the woman made multiple attempts to rejoin the forum, all of which were rejected by the administrator. Labeling the exclusion and subsequent refusal as a form of mental harassment, she took the matter to the Banjara Hills Police Station.
Seeking to resolve the neighborhood deadlock, local authorities summoned the group administrator to the station for clarification. However, during the mediation process, the administrator remained firm, stating before the police that the resident would not be re-admitted under any circumstances due to the repeated violation of group guidelines.
