Renu Dhariyal from Uttarakhand has set a Guinness World Record for the longest hair on a living person (female), measuring 271.50 cm (8 ft 10 in). Growing her hair since 2015, she attributes her achievement to natural care routines and cultural tradition. She surpassed the previous record of 257.33 cm held by Ukraine’s Aliia Nasyrova.
Renu Dhariyal from India has officially secured the Guinness World Record for the longest hair on a living person (female), measuring an astonishing 271.50 cm (8 ft 10 in). Her raven tresses narrowly edge out the height of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man in history, who stood at 272 cm.
Breaking the Record

Speaking to the Guinness World Records, Dhariyal explained that her journey to achieving this monumental length began over a decade ago. "I have been growing my hair continuously since 2015," she said. "In Indian culture, long hair is considered a symbol of extreme beauty and tradition, which is what inspired me to grow it so long. I have never cut my hair since 2015," she added.

Managing hair that stretches nearly 9 feet requires considerable dedication and patience. Dhariyal notes that washing and detangling her locks takes hours, and she relies on an elaborate plait to keep her hair off the ground during daily routines. As a content creator and YouTuber, Dhariyal frequently shares her hair care regimen with her followers, emphasising natural methods over commercial treatments. “My secret is completely natural," she noted. "I stay away from chemical products and also share the secrets of chemical-free homemade hair oils and homemade shampoos I make on my YouTube channel," Renuka added.
