A 21-year-old final-year B.Tech student of Sagar University was found dead in a lodge in Madhya Pradesh's Bina, with police investigating allegations that he had been under severe stress due to cyber fraud, digital loan app harassment, and threatening calls from Pakistani phone numbers. Authorities said evidence recovered from his mobile phone suggests he was allegedly being blackmailed and extorted online. The incident comes just days before his elder brother's wedding, which was scheduled for July 7.

The deceased, identified as Aman Prajapati, was a resident of Auder village in Ashoknagar district. Police said he had checked into Lakshmi Lodge in Chhoti Bajariya on Friday evening. His body was discovered the following morning after lodge staff received no response when they tried to wake him up for a train journey to Prayagraj.

According to lodge owner Raju Sonkar, Aman had booked room number-103 and specifically requested staff to wake him up in time to catch his train. When an employee knocked on the door the next morning, the room remained locked from the inside. Despite repeated calls, there was no response. Staff then looked through a window and found Aman hanging. Police were informed immediately, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Family members said Aman had left home on July 2 without informing anyone. His elder brother, Sunil Prajapati, said: "Aman was studying while staying in Sagar's Post Matric Hostel and Poddar Colony. He had left home on 2 July without informing anyone. After a lot of searching, when he could not be found, a missing person report was filed at Gopalganj police station."

According to the family, investigators examining Aman's mobile phone found records of repeated calls from Pakistani numbers and conversations indicating alleged cyber fraud and extortion.

Sunil Prajapati said: "Shocking information was found during the investigation of Aman's mobile phone. Records of continuous calls from Pakistani numbers were found on the phone. Through these calls, he was being cyber-cheated, and money was being extorted from him."

The family further alleged that evidence on the phone showed multiple digital loan agents had been repeatedly contacting Aman and mentally harassing him. They said he never informed them about the pressure he was facing, and the alleged harassment came to light only after his death.

Police have not independently confirmed these allegations and are examining the contents of the phone as part of the investigation.

Wedding Preparations Turn to Mourning

Aman was the youngest among four brothers. His elder brother, Priyatesh Prajapati, was scheduled to marry on July 7. Relatives said preparations for the wedding had been underway, but news of Aman's death brought the celebrations to an abrupt halt.

R.K. Joram, in-charge of Bina's Chhoti Bajariya police outpost, said: "The deceased's mobile phone is locked. The phone has been seized for investigation. Calls and chats from Pakistani numbers are being investigated. Cyber fraud networks and harassment by loan agents will also be investigated."

Police said the investigation is ongoing and will focus on verifying the alleged cyber fraud, the source of the threatening calls, and the role of digital loan agents in the case.
