Delhi Police urged protesters at Jantar Mantar to vacate the site peacefully after removing activist Sonam Wangchuk from the location early Saturday morning and shifting him to Safdarjung Hospital for urgent medical care, even as demonstrators raised slogans and attempted to obstruct the action. The appeal came shortly after the operation, with police officials making public announcements at the site urging the remaining protesters to disperse. The move to remove Wangchuk came two days after the Delhi High Court directed the Centre to "do whatever it takes" to protect his life, and a day after doctors described his condition as an emergency, warning of possible organ failure.

Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 21 days in support of a protest by activists of the satirical platform Cockroach Janata Party, who have been camped at Jantar Mantar for 29 days demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak. Sonam Wangchuk Removed From Jantar Mantar Hunger Strike Site, Shifted to Hospital (Videos).

Police Appeal For Peaceful Vacation Of Site

In a statement issued after the operation, Delhi Police said, "We request the protesters at Jantar Mantar to peacefully vacate the place at the earliest."

The statement added that while protesters were complying with the High Court's orders, some "tried to create obstruction, in which slight commotion ensued." Police said they "exercised maximum restrain and undertook the exercise safely."

Regarding Wangchuk, police said, "Sonam Wangchuk has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care." Sonam Wangchuk To March to Parliament As Hunger Strike Enters Day 20, Says ‘I’ll Come Back as a Ghost’ if It Fails (Video).

Wangchuk's Condition Described As Stable After Hospitalisation

Reports said Wangchuk is conscious and his vitals are stable following his admission to Safdarjung Hospital. His health had been steadily deteriorating in recent days, with daily medical bulletins flagging concern. An update two days earlier had said the activist had lost over 8 kilos amid the worsening condition.

Doctors who examined Wangchuk on Friday had called his situation an emergency, citing fears that his organs could begin failing.

Background: The NEET Paper Leak Protest

The Cockroach Janata Party activists have maintained their sit-in at Jantar Mantar for nearly a month, demanding accountability over the NEET paper leak and calling for Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. Wangchuk had joined the protest in support, launching his hunger strike three weeks ago, a move that drew growing attention as his health declined and eventually prompted the High Court's intervention.
