A six-month-old boy was seriously injured after a pet pit bull attacked him in Sonipat’s Sikka Colony on September 14. The child is undergoing treatment at PGIMS, Rohtak, with reports describing his condition as critical.

According to reports, the baby was being carried by his aunt while they were walking through the neighbourhood when the dog suddenly attacked. The pit bull first went after the woman before turning towards the child. CCTV footage showed the dog grabbing the infant and dragging him on the road. The aunt and other people tried to intervene, while local residents rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and eventually rescued the child. The aunt was also injured in the attack. The child suffered multiple bite injuries, including wounds to his face and abdomen. Reports said he was initially taken to a hospital in Delhi before being shifted to PGIMS Rohtak for further treatment. One report said the child required around 20 stitches for injuries to his abdomen. As of Thursday evening, The Tribune reported that no police case had been registered in connection with the incident.
