Mumbai, March 26: A businessman from Thane was killed in a hit-and-run incident after a speeding car, allegedly driven by a minor, struck him while he was cycling in Kalyan, police said. The victim, Srinivas Tandale, died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

Police from Thane acted promptly after the incident, seizing the vehicle involved and taking the minor into custody around 9 am on Wednesday. Officials have registered a case in connection with the crash. In addition to the minor, the boy’s mother has also been named in the First Information Report (FIR). "On March 24th, around 8 PM, near Saxena Lounge on new Gandhari Road, a cyclist identified as Srinivas Tandade, aged around 40, was exercising when he was struck by a car driven by a juvenile in conflict with the law. A case of hit-and-run involving rash and negligent driving has been registered in connection with this incident. The victim succumbed to his injuries, senior PI Amarnath Waghmode said. "We have seized the car involved in the incident, as the vehicle is registered in the name of the juvenile's mother; she has been named as an accused in this case. Furthermore, we have produced the juvenile before the Juvenile Justice Board. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing. The child is a student; he has just passed the 11th standard," he added.

CCTV video of the incident, which has surfaced online, shows the car veering toward the cyclist on a relatively empty stretch of road. The impact throws Tandale into the air before he lands on the road. Preliminary investigations suggest that a 17-year-old boy allegedly took the car keys from his home and drove onto Ring Road. While speeding, he is said to have lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the collision. The accident site on Ring Road has reportedly seen a rise in traffic-related incidents in recent days. Local residents said that traffic flow and speeding have increased after barricades were removed from the area. Rahnuma Ai Shamuddin, a member of a local cycling group, raised concerns about safety conditions. She said the stretch has become increasingly risky for pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists who use the road for morning activities.
