According to Indian Railways, Train No. 12290 had passed through Borkhedi station at around 8:27 pm when an unknown person or group hurled stones or blunt objects from trackside scrubland. Following the incident, the train was halted at Wardha railway station for a mandatory technical and safety check. Railway personnel and safety engineers inspected the damaged coaches for approximately half an hour to ensure passenger safety before clearing the superfast service to proceed onward to Mumbai CSMT.
After receiving alert information at around 8:46 pm, joint teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) launched immediate search operations along the railway corridor. Security personnel combed the track section between kilometer markers 803 and 796 on the Borkhedi-Sindi stretch, expanding the perimeter into the surrounding areas of Borkhedi and Brahmani villages. Case Registered Under Railway Act
A formal criminal case has been registered by the railway authorities to bring the culprits to book. Crime No. 325/2026 was filed against unidentified individuals at 2:55 am on September 26 under Section 153 of the Railways Act, 1989, which penalizes acts endangering the safety of travelers by an act of omission or commission.
Investigators from the GRP and RPF are analyzing trackside CCTV feeds and questioning local informants to establish whether the attack was an act of deliberate sabotage, mischief, or an isolated strike.

Incidents of stone pelting on premium trains have been reported in many parts of the country before, including recurring incidents targeting the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express and Rajdhani services.
