New Delhi, March 6: Swine flu cases are on a rise across India with overĀ 2,500 cases of seasonal influenza (H1N1) reported inĀ just one week till March 3. According to details by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there has been a sudden spike in H1N1 virus casesĀ between February 24 and March 3. The reports states that as many as 17,366 cases and 530 deaths were recorded in the country until March 3. Till February 22, a total ofĀ 379 people had lost their lives across the nation, while theĀ number of those infected by the H1N1 virus crossed over 12,000. Swine flu isĀ a self-limiting viral, air-borneĀ diseaseĀ spread from person-to-person, through large droplets generated through coughing and sneezing. TheĀ symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing. Other symptoms may include body ache, headache, fatigue, chills, diarrhoea andĀ vomitingĀ and blood-stained sputum.

The virus is also spread through indirect contact by touching a contaminatedĀ objectĀ or surface (fomite transmission like telephone, cell phones, computers, door handles, door bells, pens, toys etc) and close contact (including hand shaking, hugging, kissing).
