Anganwadi Worker Arrested After Viral Video Shows Child Covered With Sack

The video, which began circulating online on Thursday, reportedly shows the anganwadi worker admonishing a child for crying before covering the child with a sack and then removing it. The footage triggered concern among local residents and child welfare advocates, with many questioning the treatment of children at the centre.

Following the video's circulation, social activist Selvaraja from Surandai submitted a representation to the district administration seeking immediate action. Firozabad Horror: Man Repeatedly Slams Toddler To Ground, Kills Him As He Saw Him As Barrier to Relationship With Mother (Disturbing Video).

In his representation to the district collector, Selvaraja alleged that the child had been subjected to harassment and called for a thorough inquiry into the incident. He also urged officials to intervene and ensure the safety and well-being of children attending anganwadi centres. The complaint prompted district authorities to initiate an official investigation into the matter.

According to officials, an inquiry conducted by the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) confirmed that the incident had taken place. The worker involved was identified as Kalaiselvi and was suspended from service pending further action. Authorities said the inquiry findings were reviewed before disciplinary and legal measures were initiated.

Tenkasi Collector Ranjeet Singh said the incident occurred on Thursday and immediate action was taken after officials verified the allegations. “A formal police complaint was filed by the child’s mother on Thursday. Subsequently, the anganwadi worker was arrested on Friday morning,” he added.

Police have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the charges filed in the case. The incident has renewed attention on child safety and supervision standards at anganwadi centres, which provide early childhood care, nutrition and educational support to young children across India.

Officials have indicated that appropriate procedures were followed after the complaint was received and that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The case remains under inquiry.
