A tiger ventured close to human habitation in the Garjia area of Ramnagar in Nainital district on Monday afternoon, August 17, and killed a horse near National Highway 309, triggering panic among locals. The incident reportedly took place around 1:30 pm near the gate of the previously established Garjia Tourism Zone, close to the Jhula Pul intersection.

The tiger attacked the horse in broad daylight before dragging the carcass into the forest, TV9Hindi reported. Tiger Kills Horse Near Human Habitation

According to the report, people were present in the vicinity when the tiger attacked the horse. Loud cries were heard during the incident. After killing the horse, the tiger dragged it towards the forest.

The incident occurred near the Jhula Pul intersection, an important access route for residents and a location frequented by people during the day. Forest Department Increases Patrolling

The Forest Department responded after receiving information about the incident. Teams from the Ramnagar Forest Division have increased patrolling and surveillance in the area. Forest personnel are monitoring the tiger's movements and attempting to establish its location.

Krishna Singh Mehra, Range Officer of the Ramnagar Forest Division, stated that the area is being continuously monitored. Teams have also been instructed to remain vigilant in view of the tiger's movements.

Residents, Tourists Advised Caution

The Forest Department has appealed to residents and tourists to exercise caution because of the tiger's presence. People have specifically been advised to avoid the suspension bridge and areas adjoining the forest.

Authorities have warned that going towards these areas without caution could be dangerous while the tiger remains in the vicinity. Families have also been advised to be particularly careful with children and avoid allowing them to venture towards the forest or suspension bridge area.

Tiger Activity Reported Frequently In Area

Local residents said tiger activity has been reported repeatedly in the area. The latest incident, involving a horse being killed during the day close to residential areas, has further increased concern among residents.

People have demanded stronger patrolling and surveillance by the Forest Department to prevent the situation from escalating and to reduce the risk of a human-wildlife conflict. At present, Forest Department teams continue to monitor the area and track the tiger's potential location.
