Trouble for Apple as CCPA Launches Full Investigation Into Persistent iPhone iOS 18 Issues
The CCPA has launched a detailed investigation into Apple over persistent technical issues affecting iPhones running iOS 18. Consumer groups like LocalCircles report rising complaints and are urging further action. 'The CCPA’s escalation of the case and its scrutiny of Apple’s software warranty terms is a welcome step,' LocalCircles said.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has officially escalated its scrutiny by launching a detailed investigation into Apple Inc. following persistent technical issues reported by iPhone users after the rollout of iOS 18. The regulatory probe follows a notice issued to the tech giant last year seeking explanations regarding technical complaints, their timelines, and remedial actions taken by the company.
CCPA Investigation and Regulatory Scrutiny
With user grievances continuing a year after the initial notice was issued, official sources confirmed on Tuesday, September 15, that the CCPA has moved forward with a full-scale investigation into the matter, reports PTI. Rapido Fined INR 10 Lakh by CCPA for Dark Patterns, Misleading Prompts.
The regulatory body's ongoing scrutiny specifically examines Apple’s software warranty terms and response mechanisms as consumer complaints regarding iOS 18 performance issues remain unresolved.
Consumer Feedback and LocalCircles Survey
A recent survey conducted by consumer platform LocalCircles highlights that complaints among iPhone users have increased compared to a previous study in January 2025. LocalCircles has announced plans to submit these latest findings directly to the CCPA as formal input for the ongoing investigation. Reiterating its stance, LocalCircles has called for class-action measures against Apple Inc., pointing out that a proper, comprehensive solution has yet to be offered to affected device owners. “The CCPA’s escalation of the case and its scrutiny of Apple’s software warranty terms is a welcome step,” LocalCircles said in a statement. However, the organisation cautioned that until formal, enforceable directives or penalties are issued, consumer relief will largely depend on “Apple’s internal prioritisation and willingness to publicly acknowledge the extent of the problem.”
