Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district rescued a 45-day-old infant and arrested five people after the child's mother allegedly sold him for INR 1.5 lakh and concocted a false kidnapping tale. The mother claimed the baby vanished at a bus stand, but investigators uncovered a transaction brokered by middlemen, leading to the child's rescue and recovery of cash.

A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district sold her one-and-a-half-month-old son for INR 1.5 lakh and fabricated a kidnapping story to cover up the deal, police said. The child was rescued and five accused arrested within 24 hours of the case coming to light.

The woman approached the police saying that her baby had disappeared from the Kasganj bus stand while she was in the washroom, India Today reported. The child’s father, who works as a labourer in Faridabad, had been informed that his son was missing. However, the police investigation and questioning exposed a deal to sell the infant, with the kidnapping claim being used to conceal the transaction. Maharashtra: Couple Sells Baby To Buy Phones and Gold Chain in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; 7 Arrested.

Fabricated Kidnapping and Middlemen Network

According to police, Arun, a resident of Salempur, and his wife acted as middlemen and negotiated a deal worth INR 2 lakh with Mahipal and his wife. Of the amount, INR 1.5 lakh was paid to the child’s mother.

During questioning, inconsistencies emerged in the mother's timeline of events at the bus stand, prompting investigators to examine her financial transactions and track communications between the suspected intermediaries and prospective buyers.

In a joint operation, police and the Special Operations Group arrested five accused from a passenger waiting room at a train station within 24 hours. The police recovered the infant safely and seized INR 80,000 in cash from the accused. All five accused have been produced before a court, and further legal proceedings are underway.
