Lucknow, November 6: In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide after his father refused to give him money to buy firecrackers. Reports inform that the boy hung himself from a tree in Gosainganj on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Suraj. According to a report by TOI, the incident came to light after a villager named Ramjeet spotted the boy’s body hanging from a tree. He soon informed Suraj's father and alerted the police about the incident. Soon after the incident was reported, a police team later brought down the body.
According to details by Police, no injury marks were found on the body. Meanwhile, Suraj's relatives informed police that he had been scolded by his father after he had asked for money to buy crackers for Diwali. The TOI report further claims that Suraj had dropped out of school after Class V and had been looking for a job to earn money to purchase crackers on Diwali. Suraj's uncle Vikram Singh was quoted in reports saying that even in 2017, Suraj had got into a fight with his family over bursting firecrackers. He had even run away from home for two days. This is not the first such incident of suicide that has been reported during the Diwali season. In another similar incident, a 16-year-old speech-impaired girl hung herself from a ceiling fan at Gujarat’s Bhestan. According to a TOI report, the deceased, who has been identified as Pooja Chandrakant Dholke, took the extreme step after her father delayed to get her new clothes. Her father had promised her to buy new clothes for Diwali when he would get his salary.
In another separate incident, a lovelorn teenaged couple ended their lives by consuming poison in Banswara district of Rajasthan. According to details by Station House Officer Nagendra Singh of Ambapura police station, the bodies of 19-year-old Sarju Ram Meena and his girlfriend Usha Dindor, 18, were found near a hillock in Deri village of the district.
