Kasganj, July 6: Alleging mental harassment by her senior, a woman constable attempted suicide at a police station in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh. Constable Vaishali Pundhir tried to kill herself at the Sahawar police station on Monday, July 5. Before attempting suicide, constable Vaishali sent a message in an official WhatsApp group, alleging that SHO Rajesh Kumar Meena did not grant her leave when she was allegedly sick. "I was not feeling well and told him that I would not be able to continue with the duty today. The constable went on to allege that SHO Rajesh Kumar Meena was mentally torturing all the women constables, seeking strict action against him. She was rescued by her colleague who rushed her to a hospital. Her condition was said to be stable. The SHO, however, dismissed the allegations.

"Constable Vaishali’s duty was assigned at the local branch of State Bank of India. During inspection, she was found absent. When questioned about her absence, she was not able to provide any satisfactory answer," he told TOI. "She tried to commit suicide to build pressure on me. Allegation of harassment is false," the SHO added.

According to Kasganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar Sonkar, circle officer of Sahawar has been asked to conduct an investigation in the matter. Based on the probe, action will be taken against whoever is found at fault, the senior cop added.
