Alleged Violations of Safety Rules

Officials noted that such activities can pose risks, particularly during large gatherings on the river, where overcrowding and limited monitoring may increase the likelihood of accidents.

Police Investigation Underway

The Uttar Pradesh Police has initiated a probe into the incident. Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Anjan confirmed that authorities have taken cognisance of the viral video and are working to identify those involved.

Police said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, including whether any laws or administrative orders were violated.

A local organisation, Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Nyay, has submitted a memorandum to officials seeking action against individuals responsible for the alleged misconduct. The group emphasised that the actions of a few should not be attributed to the entire boatmen community, which traditionally observes the occasion in a devotional manner.
