According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), all injured individuals have been admitted to a local hospital, and no casualties have been reported so far.
The incident occurred near the Meenakshi Bridge, an active worksite for the tunnel project intended to improve transit between the Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Local residents initially rescued at least three people from a temporary housing setup used by the tunnel project's construction workers. In response to the emergency, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed multiple units to the location. The NDRF team stationed nearby at Meenangadi was dispatched immediately, while an additional unit based in Kozhikode has been directed to proceed to Wayanad to support ongoing search and rescue efforts.
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan convened an emergency meeting with Wayanad Minister T. Siddique to evaluate the situation. Chief Minister Satheeshan also contacted the Wayanad District Collector by phone to review field operations. He has directed Revenue Minister AP Anil Kumar and Minister Siddique to travel to the affected site directly to closely coordinate the rescue and relief mission.
