The incidents were reported across Tamankhola, Nisikhola and Tarakhola rural municipalities, with rescue teams deployed in the affected areas, according to a report.
Multiple Villages Affected
According to Baglung District Police Chief Phanindra Prasai, nine people died and one person went missing on Sunday, while another person was killed in a landslide on Saturday. In Tamankhola-3, Dharnasuk, 80-year-old Buddhiraj Gharti and 66-year-old Bhimdevi Gharti died after a landslide buried their home. Eight houses were also swept away in the village. In Tamankhola-4, Santar, 50-year-old Hastabir Sripali and 65-year-old Udisara Sripali were killed when their house was buried. Four Members of Family Killed
In Nisikhola Rural Municipality-3, a landslide buried a house and killed four members of the same family. The victims were identified as 36-year-old Shyamkumari BK and her three sons — 13-year-old Manoj, eight-year-old Mukesh and three-year-old Nishan.
Another death was reported in Nisikhola-6, where 50-year-old Suryabahadur Gharti died after a landslide buried a cowshed. On Saturday, 59-year-old Manbahadur Roka was killed when a landslide buried a house in Tarakhola Rural Municipality-5.
Rescue Operations Underway
Security personnel have been deployed to the affected locations to conduct search and rescue operations. A Nepal Army helicopter has also been used to reach areas affected by the landslides. Officials said early warnings helped prevent further casualties in some locations. Heavy rainfall has made access difficult in several areas, while landslides and flooding have disrupted roads and other infrastructure.
Heavy Rain Causes Wider Damage
The Baglung landslides are part of a broader spell of severe weather across Nepal since Thursday. Floods and landslides have affected several districts, with roads, bridges, houses and other infrastructure damaged. Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that the wider weather emergency had caused deaths and displacement across multiple districts, while authorities continued rescue and evacuation operations.
