Police say she had been living in a rented accommodation in Gorakhpur and is accused in multiple criminal cases, including attempted murder, extortion and vehicle theft. What Was Anshika Singh's Alleged Modus Operandi?
According to the police investigation, Anshika Singh allegedly used social media platforms and messaging apps to identify potential victims.
Her alleged modus operandi included:
- Initiating conversations with targets through Facebook Messenger and other social media platforms.
- Obtaining their phone numbers and shifting conversations to WhatsApp.
- Making video calls and allegedly persuading victims to engage in explicit conversations.
- Secretly recording the video calls.
- Threatening to file rape cases or leak the recordings unless victims paid money.

Police Officials Among Those Allegedly Targeted
According to investigators, several people from different backgrounds were allegedly trapped, including a Circle Officer posted in Ayodhya and around 15 police personnel. A hospital manager in Gorakhpur was also among the alleged victims.
Police allege that when one victim refused to pay INR 50,000 demanded by Singh, she allegedly threatened him with a false rape case and harm to his family. The dispute later escalated into a shooting incident in which another man was injured.
Shooting Case Led to Arrest
The case gained widespread attention after Singh allegedly opened fire during a confrontation over an extortion payment. Police arrested her shortly after the incident and recovered a pistol.
Her alleged associate remains absconding, while police continue to investigate the financial transactions, mobile phone data and digital evidence recovered during the probe.
Social Media Presence
Investigators also found that Singh was active on Instagram, where she had uploaded more than 700 reels. Police are examining her mobile phones, social media activity and call records as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have stressed that the investigation is continuing, and further action will be based on digital evidence, financial records and witness statements.
