The Uttarakhand government has intensified its enforcement drive against educational institutions operating without legal sanction, shutting down 20 unrecognised madrasas across the state, including key operations in Dehradun and Haldwani.

According to Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, authorities have sealed 17 madrasas so far. The management teams of three other institutions voluntarily submitted written undertakings confirming they have halted operations after failing to meet prescribed regulatory standards. In the latest action in Dehradun, officials sealed Madrasa Jamia-Tus-Salam Al-Islamia in Azad Colony. Meanwhile, the administrators of Madrasa Dar-e-Arqam in Majra and Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia agreed to discontinue classes voluntarily.

A similar joint operation was carried out in Haldwani, Nainital district. City Magistrate A.B. Vajpayee confirmed that authorities sealed Madrasa Jamia Nooria Barkate Amina on Shani Bazaar Road and another facility in Banbhoolpura's Indira Nagar after neither management could produce valid recognition documents upon request.

The state government stated that the action aligns with directives from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who mandated that all educational centers comply with mandatory registration, administrative compliance, and academic benchmarks.
