Zepto Dark Store Raid: 1,550 Milk, Curd Packets Destroyed Over Poor Storage in Jaipur

Food safety authorities in Jaipur raided a dark store operated by quick-commerce platform Zepto on Thursday, disposing of around 1,550 packets of dairy products, 100 kilograms of damaged food items, and 7 kilograms of expired food inventory due to severe storage and sanitation violations. The surprise inspection was conducted at the J.D.S. Marketing Warehouse in Ramnagariya Extension, Jagatpura, under Rajasthan's ongoing "Shuddh Ahaar - Milawat Par Vaar" campaign. The drive was led by Joint Commissioner Vijay Prakash Sharma alongside a team of food safety officers.

During the raid, officials discovered critical temperature management failures inside the warehouse's cold rooms and deep freezers. Storage temperatures were recorded between 6°C and 14°C, significantly higher than prescribed food safety standards for perishable goods. Consequently, officers ordered the immediate destruction of roughly 1,550 packets of milk, curd, and buttermilk belonging to brands such as Saras and Amul. Inspectors also seized nearly 100 kilograms of damaged food stock stored without mandatory "Not for Sale" labels, alongside 7 kilograms of expired items—including muesli, candy, and bhujia—offered for purchase. The location, which handles approximately 500 home deliveries daily, was also flagged for poor hygiene, including spit marks from pan masala, dirty walls, and rusted, broken iron storage racks. In response to the violations, authorities issued an official notice directing Zepto management to immediately rectify temperature controls, storage protocols, and overall sanitation. Samples of Pintola peanut butter and honey were collected in the presence of store manager Kailash Chand Meena and sent to the State Central Food Laboratory for quality testing. Officials stated that legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act will follow if test results indicate adulteration or non-compliance.
