Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has announced another protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar does not resign. In a post on X, Dipke said supporters from across India would travel to Delhi for the demonstration. The announcement came hours after the CJP held a protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2, where Dipke reiterated his demand for Kumar’s resignation. The CJP has been campaigning against the Election Commission over issues related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Abhijeet Dipke Announces October 10 Protest

In his X post, Dipke said that if Gyanesh Kumar did not resign, “cockroaches from across India” would protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The proposed demonstration would be the latest in a series of protests announced by the CJP against the poll panel. According to reports, Dipke said supporters from different parts of the country would march to Delhi for the October 10 agitation. He also described the proposed protest as peaceful. CJP Demands Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation over allegations concerning the electoral-roll revision process. Dipke has also called for greater transparency in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and greater involvement of civil society in the process. The Election Commission, however, has said that decisions relating to the SIR exercise were taken unanimously by the three-member poll panel. The controversy has also drawn criticism from several Opposition parties and other groups.

Mumbai Protest Held on October 2

The latest announcement followed the CJP’s October 2 protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Thousands of people also participated in protests in Mumbai and Delhi on Friday over the SIR exercise and the demand for the CEC’s resignation, according to The Indian Express. In Delhi, a separate protest against the Election Commission was held amid heavy police deployment and barricading around Jantar Mantar. Several protesters were detained during the demonstration, according to The Indian Express. ‘A Lathi Can Stop a Crowd, But Not a Question’: Rahul Gandhi Backs Protesters Demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation.

CJP Plans Further Mobilisation

The CJP had earlier announced protests in several states before planning another demonstration in Delhi. Dipke had initially said the Jantar Mantar agitation would take place toward the end of October, while his latest X post specifically announced October 10. The proposed October 10 protest is expected to keep the CJP’s campaign against the Election Commission in focus as the group continues to press for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
