Lucknow, October 4: Former Lok Sabha MP Bhalchandra Yadav died after a prolonged illness on Friday. Bhalchandra Yadav, who breathed his last at a hospital, had twice represented Sant Kabir Nagar parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Yadav, former Samajwadi Party leader, joined the Congress party in presence of Priyanka Gandhi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He unsuccessfully contested polls from the Sant Kabir Nagar parliamentary constituency.

Praveen Kumar Nishad of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Yadav in the Lok Sabha election. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi expressed grief over Bhalchandra Yadav's death, describing him as a grassroots leader.
