Bengaluru, May 17: The swearing-in of Bharatiya Janata Party's B.S. Yeddyurappa took place at Raj Bhavan on Thursday at 9.00 a.m. Ahead of the oath-taking ceremony, CM designate BS Yeddyurappa offered prayers at a temple in Bengaluru. This will be the third time when Yeddyurappa will take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The Supreme Court on Thursday morning decided not to put a stay on the swearing-in while conducting a post-midnight hearing. With this, Yeddyurappa became the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka on Thursday. The Congress and JD(S) pleaded for the same citing BJP's inadequate strength in the assembly to stake claim at forming the state government.
On Wednesday, the state unit of BJP took to Twitter and informed about Yeddyurappa's oath-taking ceremony. “The Moment that crores of Kannadigas are awaiting is here. Sri BS Yedyurappa will take oath as chief minister of Karnataka tomorrow morning at 9.00 AM at Raj Bhawan. The movement to build our Suvarna Karnataka has begun. #CMBSY,” the Twitter handle of BJP’s Karnataka unit tweeted.
Yeddyurappa, who was born on February 27, 1943, will succeed Siddaramaiah. The three-judge bench of Justice A.K. Sikri, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice SA Bobde, however, did not dismiss the petition filed by the two parties and said: "This petition is a subject of hearing later on". The next hearing will take place on Friday at 10:30 am.
As per reports by ANI, on Wednesday Night, Congress and JD(S) challenged Karnataka Governor Vajubhai R. Vala's decision in the top court to invite BJP to form the government even when the saffron party, with 105 MLAs, including one Independent MLA, is seven short of the halfway mark of 112.
