New Delhi, December 26: Left parties will hold week-long protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) starting from January 1, Communist Party of India (Marxist) said on Thursday. In a statement, Left parties called for the week-long protest "against the assault on our Constitution: CAA/NRC/NPR and mounting miseries on the people due to economic recession". They called upon all their units and all the states of the country to organize "powerful protest movements against the assault on the Indian Constitution through the CAA/NRC/NPR". "The Left parties will conduct a programme of solidarity campaigns to extend support to the All India General Strike called by the Central Trade Unions on January 8. The Left parties extend support to all the kisan and agricultural workers organisations and civil society movement that have called for a `grameen bandh’ on January 8," read the statement. As many as 10 central trade unions have called for All India General Strike on January 8 against government's alleged failure to respond to demands of workers.

The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) has announced that farmers across the country will organise a nationwide 'Grameen Bharat Bandh' on January 8 against the alleged anti-farmer policies and inaction of the Centre on the demands of the farmers.
